Girl Scout Cookies: Not So Sweet After All
May 6, 2011
Apparently the delicious cookies Girl Scouts sell every year contain palm oil, which has been linked to child labor in Indonesia as well as rainforest deforestation. Oops…
Two girls are taking action to try and get the Girl Scouts of America to remove the ingredient from their cookies, but it’s looking like their efforts may be futile since the palm oil was added as a replacement for less healthy trans fats. Want to help them out? They’ve started a petition and have gathered 57,504 signatures so far.
On a side note, is everyone else as impressed as we are that the Girl Scouts wrangle in $714 million in cookie sales annually? WOW.
