82% Recycling Rate in California

June 28, 2011

Just came across this mini article on GOOD about California’s recycling rate in 2009. It turns out that the rate was at the highest it’s been since 1992, and it seems to be due to two factors: this little recession we have going on and an increase in the redemption value from 4 cents to 5 cents. As a comparison, California’s beverage container recycling rate is almost triple the national average (82% vs 33%). Wow!

Thanks for this post. If you’re anywhere near Mission Viejo then you have got to go to The Shops at Mission Viejo for your back to school clothes. They, in conjunction with the city and Waste Management are offering a Super Recycler award to retailers.
