
Plastic Bottle School

Although we’re not big fans of plastic bottles, it’s great when people can find ways to re-purpose them so they don’t end up in landfills and oceans. This project in Guatemala used discarded bottles to help create the walls of a new school. Elementary school teacher Laura Kutner proposed the idea known as “eco-blocks”: plastic bottles stuffed with trash and covered with chicken wire and cement to hold them all together. Not only does this technique help clean up the area, but it also keeps the building interiors cooler. Win-win!
