Americans Elect 2012

August 2, 2011

We heard about this non-profit on NPR yesterday and think it’s absolutely fantastic. Basically, Americans Elect is a nonpartisan platform that allows voters to define their priorities and find candidates who think similarly. Furthermore, as potential candidates choose their running mates, they’ll be required to select from a party other than their own, which certainly seems like a step in the right direction in terms of working together to create solutions that can satisfy as many people as possible. We love how technology is being put to work here. Here’s how Americans Elect describes themselves:

“Americans Elect is the first-ever open nominating process. We’re using the Internet to give every single voter—Democrat, Republican or independent—the power to nominate a presidential ticket in 2012. The people will choose the issues. The people will choose the candidates. And in a secure, online convention next June, the people will make history by putting their choice on the ballot in every state.”
