Steve Jobs

October 7, 2011

Even though it’s been a few days now since we learned about his death, we still write this with heavy hearts. Steve Jobs was a personal inspiration for both of us. His unrivaled business intuition, mastery of design, and pure brilliance will be impossible to replace, but it is his perseverance and his drive to create positive change that we admire most. It is things like this that remind us of our own mortality, of how short and fickle our lives are. However, it is also things like these that show us just how much impact a single person can have. Maybe that is Steve Jobs’ greatest legacy: inspiring people to go out and do something that matters.

Apple’s 1997 Think Different campaign is our favorite ad of all time. Reading over the script now, it is hard to think of better words to describe him:

Here’s to the Crazy Ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them,
disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing that you can’t do, is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They invent. They imagine. They heal.
They explore. They create. They inspire.
They push the human race forward.
While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world,
are the ones who do.

You will be missed.
